“Ariel Sharon stood right here and made a decision that would change the life of millions”

“I am a tour guide at the ‘Ariel Sharon’ park, and every time I stand in this spot I just can’t believe that this place was Israel’s largest landfill. I witness every day how Mount Hiriya and its surroundings are slowly but surely becoming an 8,000 square meter metropolitan park – more than double the size of Central Park! The place was named after Ariel Sharon, in honor of his last minute decision that saved this area from becoming another huge housing project. It is now one of the world’s biggest environmental rehabilitation projects and I am proud to be part of it. Ecology for me is a way of life. I believe that the least we can do is to help this planet after all the good it has given to us. As a tour guide in this special place, I try to deliver this message to my groups every day.”
